Wimbledon 2009

Well, it has been a long time since my last blog entry but it has been quite a year. The Steelers won the Super Bowl in Feb, the Penguins the Stanley Cup in June and now Federer has won his 15th grand slam title. The most exciting thing about it all is I was able to attend the Stanley Cup Finals Game 6 and Wimbledon. Yes I did. I flew to London on Saturday afternoon from pittsburgh. Landed in London Heathrow on Sunday morning. Amazingly, I was through security and customs in minutes. My aunt didn't even have time to enter the terminal. It was the first time they used the car park for free.
After a short nap, we drove the wimbledon. Nervous excitement was buzzing through me. Was I really going to attend the Wimledon Finals and possibly see Rojer Federer beat Samprass' record. Not until I had the tickets in hand was i at ease. Then I was just full of joy. My cousin, Jon, joined me on the great day.
We took some pictures and got our strawberries and creme. Now it was 1:30pm and only 30 minutes till the two players took there place on Centre Court to make history. After, 4hours and 18 minutes, 5 thrilling sets, culminating it a 16-14 final set. Federer did it. The only break he had was in the last set. It was the winning break. Roddick played an amazing game. This match may not have been an instant classic like Federer-Nadal 2008, but it was surely a great match. Two great atheltes, neither giving in. Both fighting to maintain there service.
As we made our way down the grandstand at Centre Court, i still could not believe I was a witness to history. Spending some time in the Wimbledon Shop to buy some gifts we rejoined my aunt who came to pick us up. As we drive by the main entrance at Gate 5 on Church street, there he was. Rojer Federer was standing in the balcony waving to the crowds gathered below. Eah peron with a grin on there face returning the waves of the now number 1 player in the world. It seemed as though he even gave us a glance, thanking us for coming. Thank you Rojer. Hopefully we can see you in NY at the USOpen.

NHL Playoffs

Well, The Pens swept the Senators and it has been a long layoff. The playoffs have been exciting with both Conferences having great games. We are almost set. Washington looks to come back tonight to try and tie the series by winning their second in a row or face elimination. Boston has valiantly fought back with great checking and goal tending and upset the Eastern Conference Champions. The Penguins and Rangers will sit and watch the games with the rest of us to see who they may join in the next round. I think Boston will upset Montreal and Philly will take care of the Capitals. I would have enjoyed a Pens Capitals series. The marketing is great. Ovechkin, Crosby, Malkin. The three most exciting players. Briere has been the man on fire rolling the Flyers to the next round. So, the East second round would be Pens vs Bruins, Rangers vs Flyers.

Now for the Western Conference. With upsets all around with Colorado and Dallas making it to the next round. Detroit escaped elimination by surviving the Predators. We wait for the last game. San Jose trying to redeem themselves after going down in the series to the Flames. Calgary has been hot riding solid goal tending. I will go with the trend and say Calgary takes it at San Jose with a 2-1 final.
